The entertainment industry has canceled events to prevent the spread of coronavirus and is helping people cope with sheltering in their homes by providing online activities, shows, or even tours. Some music artists are contributing to the cause in any way they can.
R&B superstar Rihanna has a non-profit organization called Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF), which is giving $5 million to the response efforts against the COVID-19. Rihanna founded the Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012.
The foundation wrote in a statement:
The money will support on-the-ground partners working on the frontlines of disaster response, especially those focused on protecting and serving marginalized communities — helping the most vulnerable in the United States, the Caribbean and in Africa prepare for what is to come.
The funding will be channeled through Feeding America, Partners In Health, the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, the International Rescue Committee, Direct Relief, and others. “Never has it been more important or urgent to protect and prepare marginalized and underserved communities –those who will be hit hardest by this pandemic,” said Justine Lucas, the executive director of CLF.
The money will also go to testing, virus prevention, food banks, distribution of critical respiratory supplies, and healthcare worker training.
