Evinetta is a blend-vehicle made of a 1971 Ferrari concept car (the 512S Berlinetta Speciale) and a Tesla. It’s the body of a classic with the heart of a modern propulsion system. The breathtaking electric vehicle (EV) is the ultimate blend of past and present automotive design. It might be 2020’s best EV concept, and it’s not even coming from an automaker.
Artist Ash Thorp teamed up with automotive CGI artist Carlos Pecino (aka Colorsponge) to bring Evinetta to life. They removed the Ferrari’s original V12 engine and replaced it with a Large Tesla Drive Unit – balancing the best of both worlds.
Thorp said:
By merging the old with the new, we wanted to transform your view of the conventional EV concept. We used a wide range of tools, everything from V-Ray and 3ds Max to Cinema4D and DaVinci Resolve, with various plugins and tricks in between. [The project aim was to] share our perspective on what EV vehicles could possibly be in the future.
Filippo Sapino initially designed the 512S Berlinetta during his short involvement with Pininfarina. Thorp envisioned it being driven by the Tesla Model S powertrain and an active ride suspension, with other parts (particularly the interior) adapted from the Porsche RSR.
Designers of exotic cars (and everything else) in the 1960s and 1970s loved sharp lines. Concept supercars from that era show how the common consensus about future vehicles was they’d be pointy and elongated. And since designers are the people who shape and draw out the future, that’ exactly what came to be.
However, the Ferrari 512S Berlinetta Speciale is as futuristic-looking now as it was back then.
The team that made the short film featuring Evinetta included several artists from various fields, including graphics, film, and music. They also published some stunning photos of the car and will likely be sharing more.

A cross-section image shows the large motor sitting between two large rear wheels and a battery pack on the vehicle’s floor. The amount of modeling detail put into this project gives the idea more credibility and helps it stand out. If you don’t know better, you’d probably think it’s a real racecar perfectly tailored for high-speed tracks. And let’s be honest, it’s impossible not to wish Evinetta was real!
