On Dec. 9, 2020, LG Electronics (LG) announced that it has partnered with Swedish manufacturer ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems, a global leader of automated doors, to develop automatic sliding doors with built-in transparent OLED displays.
The new product will integrate LG’s transparent OLED signage technology into ASSA ABLOY’s automated glass sliding doors and will be powered by SuperSign software. These doors will be ideal for businesses and will provide new opportunities to greet customers, communicate with employees, and deliver advertisements and marketing content.

LG has already shown off its transparent displays earlier this year. In August, LG announced that its displays were being used in the windows of subway trains in Beijing (Line 6) and Shenzhen (Line 10), with plans to integrate them into store windows in the future. Additionally, both Panasonic and Xiaomi’s ‘world’s first mass-produced transparent TV’ use LG’s transparent OLED panels.
The transparent display market is projected to rise on average 46% each year, meaning annual sales should reach around $5 billion by 2024, according to Prescient & Strategic Intelligence.

Samsung has previously experimented with transparent OLED displays, but reports in 2016 announced that it had terminated production of the technology. This allowed LG to step up into the game and capture a large share of that market.
