A caring and generous couple from Longden, Shropshire, England have fundraised for over 30 years and have already donated up to £60,000, primarily to Severn Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Severn Hospice gives free of charge specialist care and support to families in UK’s North Powys and Shropshire who are living with an incurable sickness. Macmillan Cancer Support is one of Britain’s largest charities and provides specialist health care and financial backing to people affected by cancer.
Brian Hobson, 88, and Anne, 84, have found all kinds of ways to raise money, including organizing fundraiser events, harvest festivals, hosting quiz nights, selling produce, and making wooden bird boxes and toys. Slowly but surely, they have accumulated tens of thousands for charities, with £38,000 for Severn Hospice alone.
Hannah Gamston, Severn Hospice’s area fundraiser, said:
People like Brian and Anne really do make such a difference to us. Their long-term fundraising shows real commitment, and their support over the years has meant that we have been able to care for thousands of people living with an incurable illness. They show that no matter how small your fundraising idea is – it all adds up and grows. They have done so much for us and have been incredibly enterprising. We are so grateful to them.

Brian was initially motivated to raise money for charities after his first wife, Cath, died from cancer. Over the years, he and Anne have donated countless of cheques to the charities, helping thousands of people like Cath.
Anne commented:
When we stop and think about it, it is quite amazing how much we have raised. It gives us a great sense of achievement. We plan to carry on fundraising for as long as we can. We just do it; we like doing it for a good cause. And the hospice, quite a few of our friends have been in there, and they have been treated beautifully. We have just kept going.
The couple humbly highlights that they don’t want any outstanding credit for their efforts and will keep fundraising for charities for as long as they possibly can.
She added:
There is a lady in the Market Hall in Shrewsbury. She and her family have been doing it for; I don’t know how many years, and they have raised a fabulous amount of money. There are a lot of people who do it. We do not want any congratulations; we just want people to know where their money has gone.
People like Brian and Anne help lighten the world with their pure hearts and generosity.
