Electric Corvette Breaks Top Speed Record: 211.8 mph (340.85 km/h)

The all-electric Corvette supercar by Genovation broke the world record for street-legal electric vehicles again with a top speed of 211.8 mph. The Maryland-based custom carmaker has been working towards getting the all-electric Corvette – the Genovation GXE – to market for years now. And while that hasn’t happened yet, the company has repeatedly been breaking electric top speed records with the prototype!

The first time Genovation tested a car that reached a record-breaking speed was in 2016. That time it was the modified battery-powered Z06 Corvette that topped out at 205.6 mph.

Then, a year later, they broke their own record with the Genovation GXE that topped out at 209 mph.

Eager to go even faster, the carmaker kept working on its prototype. Lo and behold their efforts paid off because they recently re-beat their own record with a new top speed of 211.8 mph!

CEO of Genovation Cars, Andrew Saul, said:

During the December test, we broke our previous speed record that was set in September of this same year. That earlier record run was hampered by strong crosswinds, so we were confident that under better weather conditions we could improve upon that result.

We are thrilled to be the only electric car manufacturer to not only test our vehicle’s record-breaking capabilities, but to validate and achieve this milestone not once, not twice, but three times. Based on the early analysis of the data generated from the new record, we’re confident that we can gain efficiencies which will result in further top-end speeds.

The Genovation GXE is outfitted with a seven-speed manual transmission or a paddle-shifting eight-speed automatic. Hence why it can reach higher top speeds. Most EVs available today are single-speed or two-speed vehicles. The supercar boasts 800 horsepower (597 kilowatts) and 718 pound-feet (974 Newton-meters) of torque coming from two motors powering the rear wheels.

Genovation aims to get the vehicle to reach top speeds of over 220 mph (354 kph) and reach 60 mph (96 kph) in less than three seconds. It will have a range of around 175 miles on a full charge driving at regular speeds.

The cost is not yet set, but the company is talking about a price tag of $750,000 per car. It will be a limited-edition run of 75 units.
