GE Renewable Energy has just teamed up with China Huaneng Group to build a 715MW wind farm in the Henan province, in Puyang, China. They agreed on the deal at the China International Import Expo (CIIE).
This is GE’s largest-ever wind order in Asia and is for 286 of the company’s 2.5-132 turbines. The 130-meter soft steel towers will be developed by China Huaneng.

GE specifically designed the 2.5-132 turbines for China and the unique low wind speeds within the country. President of GE Renewable Energy, Jerome Pecresse said:
We are delighted to be working with the China Huaneng Group and the Henan Provincial Government to bring our technology, people, commitment and clean wind power to Henan Province, as China continues to work toward its renewable energy goals. GE has a long history in China, and we are excited to have this opportunity to continue to learn locally and grow together, with technology specifically developed for the region.
Xiangdong Ye vice president of China Huaneng Group released a statement:
We are happy to join with GE again to provide clean energy to the people of Henan Province. China Huaneng Group highly recognizes the application of advanced technology, dedicated to promoting renewable energy deployment and energy transition. We look forward to utilizing the latest and greatest low-wind-speed technology to drive farm output as well as service efficiency, helping to boost high-quality renewable energy development.
The deal is the single largest onshore wind turbine contract awarded to any non-Chinese wind company, as well as the largest contract that GE has ever landed in Asia.
The wind farm is predicted to generate enough power for 500,000 homes in the Henan province. GE will look to deliver the turbines by July 2020 and China Huaneng will work on the development of the wind farm.
China is the world’s leading country in renewable energy, producing over double the generation of the United States. These new wind farms will increase that lead.
