A man is only as handy as the tools in his toolbox. That’s not technically true, of course, but while there is plenty you can achieve with your own hands, sometimes you really need a tool to do the heavy lifting.
We all use tools to make our DIY products easier to build – from first-time DIY enthusiasts to professional builders. Tools not only make our tasks easier but safer, too, as they are often designed for a specific purpose. Given the high-risk nature of many DIY projects, ensuring you have the right tools for the task is vital.
But while we all know we need a good screwdriver, handsaw, and spirit level, there are dozens of tools you might not even know exist that could make your DIY jobs significantly more successful. We’ll be focusing on just a few of these handy tools below.
Hook and Pick Set
You might be able to use the flat end of a screwdriver to pry wooden boards apart, but in many cases, a more delicate tool is required. A hook and pick set contains a variety of metal picks that can be used to snap off covers without damaging them, release push-in connections hidden in deep but tiny holes, and check the depth of a tight screw hole.

Battery Holders
If you have a range of power tools, chances are many of them use batteries, and those battery compartments will wear out over time. But you don’t need to splurge on a new tool. Did you know you can replace battery holders quite easily? They are also very affordable.
Telescoping Mirror
If you’ve ever tried installing a wall-mounted television and found it almost impossible to see all the wires and maneuver your way around everything, this could really come in handy. It’s essentially a mirror on a stick, but boy, does it work wonders! You could also add a telescoping magnetic pickup tool, which you’re at it. Ideal for finding and picking up dropped screws!
Window Scraper
You know when your windshield gets covered in frost, and you use a scraper to remove it? That window scraper can be used for so much more. From cleaning stove tops with stubborn stains to scraping off caulking and adhesive, a good scraper is a tool you’ll truly wonder how you ever lived without.

Headlamp
Unless you’re working with a friend, you only have two hands to work with, so how will you hold a torch when working in the dark? A headlamp solves this problem elegantly. It will also always be there the next time you need to examine something under the sink or go into the attic to get the Christmas decorations down.
