Spare timber will be provided by a waste management company based in Romsey, UK. Ace Liftaway will donate the timber to help those less fortunate in Africa.
Ace Liftaway has partnered with “Tools for Self Reliance,” which works with African organizations. “Tools for Self Reliance” delivers over £25,000 tools to disadvantaged communities in Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Zambia every year.
However, Tools for Self Reliance has a difficult time providing timber every month to give to their volunteers to make crates with, that they send the tools in. Ace Liftaway heard about their lack-of-timber struggles and decided to donate their wooden waste to the charity. The company usually receives thousands of tons of waste timber each year and was happy to have the opportunity to offer some of it to a noble cause.

Philip Liddell, Ace Liftaway’s Managing Director, explained:
Tools for Self Reliance support sustainable livelihoods, which is very much in line with Ace Liftaway’s mission to encourage sustainability by recycling 90% of the waste that comes on-site. By supplying the timber that the charity needs to send over the 25,000 tools per year to Africa, we are not only helping communities to prosper but also, we are taking our recycling remit to a whole new level.
Additionally, Tools for Self Reliance runs vocational training programs that provide people with the skills they need to set up their own businesses. These skills include business and financial management, technical training in trades such as welding, carpentry, and bricklaying. They also supply them with a toolkit to help them get started.
Sarah Ingleby, of Tools for Self Reliance, said:
This support from Ace Liftaway makes a very real and practical difference, enabling our volunteers to build the crates for tools which will go on to provide someone with a livelihood – it is much appreciated.
Ace Liftaway, based at Yokesford Hill, Romsey, has already made a designated area for Tools for Self Reliance to come and collect timber waste. They plan to provide as much timber as possible for Tools for Self Reliance so that they can continue their humble charity work in Africa.
