Date:

A blind engineer named Kursat Ceylan is helping blind people to have a more comfortable life. He developed a handy smart cane called the WeWalk. Ceylan is the CEO and co-founder of a Turkish non-profit called the Young Guru Academy (YGA), the company behind the making of the WeWalk.

Ceylan said:

Unfortunately, I cannot name a single city as a perfectly disabled-friendly city; that is why we are trying to provide this independence for visually impaired people.

Blind people face challenges every day. Ceylan is one of those people, and he understands the limitations of technology that people like him have. That’s why he created the WeWalk to change the lives of blind people.

WeWalk Smart Cane

The WeWalk smart cane includes several features that help blind people navigate safely. These features are listed below:

  • Built-in speakers.
  • Google Maps.
  • Voice Assistant.
  • A Bluetooth system that makes syncing to smartphone devices possible.
  • High-end sensors that warn the user through vibrations when above chest level obstacles are nearby.

Ceylan explained:

In these days we are talking about flying cars, but these people have been using just a plain stick. As a blind person, when I am at the Metro station, I don’t know which is my exit, I don’t know which bus is approaching, which stores are around me. That kind of information can be provided with the WeWalk.

WeWalk To Change Lives

To Ceylan, the WeWalk was developed to “support the visually impaired in their full participation into social life.” His goal is to make the social participation of blind people fuller and easier.

The World Health Organization estimates about 36 million people are blind worldwide. Imagine the possibilities if these blind people had WeWalk’s and the impact it would have on their lives.
