The Ecocapsule is an egg-shaped, off-grid, tiny mobile abode that utilizes solar and wind energy. It was developed by Nice Architects, a firm based in Bratislava, Slovakia. First unveiled in 2015, and completed in 2018, the tiny home gives an additional 6.3 m2 of habitable space. It can be your garden home office, a sales place for small businesses, or a guest room. For those who like its compact egg-shaped design but can’t afford it, there’s now a cheaper and simpler version available.

The new version is called Space by Ecocapsule. It has the same dimensions as the original model (15 x 7.2 ft and 88 sq ft), and the same exterior, which is a white fiberglass shell that covers a steel frame and polyurethane foam insulation. The entrance is a small sliding glass door.
However, the interior is entirely different. The original Ecocapsule interior is designed as a micro-home, including a bathroom, bed, and kitchen. In contrast, Space is more basic and better suited for an office or a spare bedroom. Space’s interior contains one bedroom with storage space and wooden floors, though it can be customized with a bed, additional furniture, air conditioning, and a bathroom at extra cost. The original Ecocapsule model starts at €79,900 ($88,000), while Space by Ecocapsule starts at €49,900 (roughly US$55,000).

The best part of all is its self-reliance. Space gets power from its 200-watt solar panel mounted on a pole that’s connected to batteries. It can also be connected to the grid with a traditional RV-style hookup. As a bonus, the tiny home even has a rainwater collection system!
