Nestlé has developed a 100% vegan cheese and bacon, to complement its existing plant-based burger patties. Resulting in a no-guilt, no-compromise, delicious, juicy, plant-based ‘bacon cheeseburger.’ This move makes it the first food and beverage company to develop a vegan alternative to all three essential elements that make up a bacon cheeseburger.
Mark Schneider, Nestlé CEO, said:
More and more consumers are looking for delicious, nutritious, and sustainable plant-based options when they dine out. We have now raised the bar by developing a ‘PB triple play’ of ingredients for an all-time classic: the bacon cheeseburger. We’re continuing to make good on our promise to offer consumers food that is right for them and right for the planet.
Where Will The Burger Be Available?
Nestlé’s plant-based burger patties are currently available to food professionals. However, the full package, including the vegan alternatives to cheese and bacon, will be available in 2020 and will be offered to professional clients such as restaurant and foodservice operators.
Perfect Bacon Cheeseburger Alternative

The ‘PB triple play’ is excellent news for those who are actively seeking to switch to plant-based meals more often. The burger delivers familiar tastes and textures that consumers are seeking out in vegan alternatives. For example, the vegan cheddar cheese has the delicious, rich, and creamy taste of dairy cheese, and it melts the same too. The company’s vegan bacon is very similar to animal-based bacon. It has the same flavor and becomes crispy and chewy when cooked. Nestlé’s plant-based burger patties provide a perfectly juicy, meat-like base, for the perfect burger. As a bonus, a variety of vegan burger sauces will be available to give an even tastier experience.
The ‘PB triple play’ doesn’t only offer a fantastic vegan burger experience, but it’s a lot healthier too. The burger is significantly lower in fat and saturated fat, zero cholesterol, and is high in fiber. As a bonus, the new products will have a smaller environmental footprint, like Nestlé’s existing plant-based offerings.

Green Nestlé
Nestlé recently announced its goal to achieve zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This goal includes offering more vegan foods and beverages. The company’s efforts to speed up the transformation of its portfolio with sustainable products have resulted in new delicious vegan options for consumers, such as the ‘PB triple play.’
Nestlé has already launched two plant-based burger companies for retail and food services – Sweet Earth Awesome Burger in the US and Garden Gourmet Incredible Burger in Europe.
In 2017, Nestlé acquired Sweet Earth, which is a leader in the food movement with over 60 plant-based products. Sweet Earth was founded in 2012 and has made 8 million pounds of plant-based protein since then. Garden Gourmet has more than three decades of experience in vegetarian and vegan food in Europe. Therefore, they can offer a wide range of meat substitutes and veggie-centric meals.
