In January 2018, marathon runner and Rockay founder Daniel Chabert Pfefferkorn had a dream to create an apparel line for runners. However, it was very important to put the environment at the forefront and to inspire change by taking part in the global sustainability movement.
Being an avid runner, Daniel knows how important it is to have high-quality socks. He noticed a gap in the market and decided he would begin his apparel journey by creating the best performance running socks.
After much studying and researching for more than one year, Daniel and his team ended up creating 100% recycled Rockay Performance Socks, which are made from ECONYL® regenerated nylon, a product that’s a final result of recycling fishing nets and ocean waste.
For the materials used in making the Rockay socks, they have partnered up with Aquafil, an industry leader in eco-fabric and sustainable products. Aquafil works to retrieve the fishing nets and other sea waste and turns the trash into the ECONYL® and other quality recycled products.
Features
Rockay uses a Polygiene anti-odor coating for their socks, which allows you to wear them more without the need for washing. This unique Stay Fresh Technology prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria, you can wear the socks, hang them out to dry, and wear them again.
To add to the durability and comfort of the socks, Rockay twists the yarn during the dyeing process. This also adds to the elasticity and recovery of the materials.
Speaking of comfort, all Rockay socks incorporate seamless toes, breathable mesh zones, carefully positioned performance cushioning, and special built-in arch compression support.
Environment
By now most people have some idea that microplastics are created from our clothing and apparel. This harms our environment. To combat this, Rockay uses continuous filament fibers (like ECONYL) which are less problematic than staple fibers. The advanced Swedish anti-odor technology added to the yarn cuts down on washing needs.
To help reduce waste, all of Rockay’s packaging is made from recycled materials, they also use natural-based inks and biodegradable polybags.
