Tesla’s Upgraded Powerwall+ Has Double The Power Capacity

Date:

Tesla’s Powerwall has been dominating the home battery pack sector thanks to its superb specs and an early-mover advantage, even though it’s seen minor updates throughout the last five years. However, recently Tesla chief Elon Musk wrote about an upgraded Powerwall 2 on Twitter and mentioned that the company’s solar panels will only be sold as a package with Powerwall from now on. He said that the charged power output could nearly double in ambient temperature.

The company “can unlock higher capabilities for free via software updates next month,” and the battery could get a power increase of over 50% at 30 degrees Celsius, depending on its production date. However, the boost in energy is only possible when you are in off-grid mode.

Now Tesla has released the specs and images of a Powerwall+ installation for the first time since the announcement. It’s been sending more detailed information about the upgraded system to potential clients.

The spec sheets describe the updated home battery pack as follows:

Powerwall+ is an integrated solar battery system to store energy from solar production. Its integrated design and streamlined installation allow for a simple connection to any home, and improved surge power capability brings whole home backup in a smaller package. System smart controls enable owners to customize system behavior to suit their renewable energy needs.

The specs confirm the charged power enhancement, revealing that the Powerwall+ possesses top energy of 9.6 kW, which rose from 5 kW continuous and 7 kW peak.

The battery itself doesn’t look different from the other versions. But, the new installation possesses an inverter with a built-in breaker that rests atop the system giving it an overall fresh look.

During Tesla’s latest earnings call, Musk said Tesla started producing the Powerwall+ around November of last year. He also revealed that the company sold more automobiles in the first quarter of this year than ever before.
