Convert A Regular Bike Into A Smart E-Bike With Vekkit’s Conversion Kit

Date:

A Polish company called Velotton has recently launched its new Vekkit Travel e-bike conversion kit with a 2-speed motor, which allows users to transform any regular bike into a smart electric bike. While Velotton’s e-bike conversion kit isn’t the only one available in the market, it’s said to be much lighter and includes innovative features.

The Vekkit kit consists of three parts – a bag with the battery, a wireless cadence sensor, and a front wheel with the motor. The cadence sensor detects when a rider is pedaling and orders the motor to assist. Installation takes between 5 to 10 minutes for most bike types, and tools needed for that is included in the kit.

Features:

  • 250W or 200W silent front motor
  • 360Wh or 252Wh Li-ion removable battery
  • Locks on the handlebar bag and the battery
  • Wireless cadence sensor
  • Handlebar remote control
  • Motor controller with FOC, with sensors, and sensorless for improved performance
  • Mobile applications for Android and iOS
  • 3A Li-ion charger, which takes 2.5-3.5 hours for a full charge
  • Motor speeds reach up to 32km/h (USA & Canada) and 25km/h (EU and UK)
  • Lightweight – at only 3kg (the city kit) or 4kg (the travel kit)
  • Software updates of the kit’s firmware

All the electronics and battery packs are in a small bag that attaches to the handlebar or behind the seat, and at any time, users can take off this bag and drive normally. Since the kit is lightweight, it doesn’t create a lot of extra weight when electric driving isn’t needed.

Android and iOS users can receive data and modify setting preferences, like max speed, via a mobile app. A built-in sensor on the handlebar provides data related to battery health, pedaling assistance, the average speed carried out during a trip, and the remaining range.

When buyers order the conversion kit, they can choose between different batteries, wheel sizes, bag types, wheel-rim-bag colors, adapters, and motors; prices start at around $640 (€550).
