An engineer inspired by Italian public taps has designed a bathroom faucet that’s also a water fountain and conserves a significant amount of water.
The average American that leaves their water running uses up to 4.4 gallons of water whenever they brush their teeth. That number rises to 88 gallons when looked at how much an average American uses water per day. That’s 32,032 gallons every year! Thankfully, an engineer has designed a new bathroom faucet, the Da Vinci Fountain Faucet, that helps conserve water. The fountain uses 88% less water than other standard faucets.
The Inventor
Steve Waddell, a Virginia-based engineer, invented the device after visiting Italy and noticing how their public water taps utilize the same principles. He saw how the users would use their hands to block the water flow out of the end. After they blocked the flow, it forced the water to squirt up and out of a hole at the top of the tap.
However, Nasoni’s Da Vinci Fountain Faucet takes a more hygienic approach. Instead of putting your hand at the end of the faucet like in Italy, Da Vinci utilizes an integrated lever-activated valve to block the water flow. Users can then enjoy a drink from the resulting fountain of freshwater that springs up at their mouths.
