Karma Automotive (formerly Fisker Automotive) has unveiled its latest concept electric vehicle (EV) at the LA Auto Show, called the Karma SC2. This new concept EV (electric vehicle) sports car is said to rival the Tesla Roadster, along with some extra video game-like abilities.
Just like the Tesla Roadster, Karma is claiming the SC2 is going to have 1,100 BHP from a dual-motor electric hypercar that can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in under 1.9 seconds to go along with 10,500 lb-ft of wheel torque. Wheel torque is different than engine torque. It is the number you get when multiplying engine torque by the gear ratio and the final drive, which would be lower than the stated wheel torque.
The SC2 EV Hypercar is inspired by the aviation and space industries and will feature multi-hinged scissor doors. They added a refined 120kWh I-shaped battery pack to optimize and balance the weight that can go up to 350 miles on a single charge. The designers have also included enhanced fingerprint and facial recognition, biometric seats, and individual sound zones.
The sporty steering wheel would feature enough ultrasonic sensors that the company claims there wouldn’t be a need to take your hands off the wheel. The biometric seats will feature a racing harness to keep you safely locked in.
Karma will also feature Ultra Sonic Sensor Stalk technology that helps both launch support from the torque-vectoring gearbox and regenerative braking for the carbon-ceramic brakes.
What sets this concept vehicle apart from others is, it is designed with a ‘Drive and Play’ system. This would allow owners of this car to relive past trips in the car. The SC2 features several complex cameras and sensors that will capture the driving experience. After a trip down a coastal highway or anywhere else is completed, you can relive the experience from the comfort of your garage or anywhere the vehicle is parked.
To help make this possible Karma noted that they will use RADAR, LIDAR, and Ultrasonic cameras to give a complete playback experience.
Another feature of the Drive and Play system is you will be able to enjoy virtual experiences of racing against friends on famous tracks from around the world. It is also going to be possible to go up against racing legends with this technology as well.
I would think the Drive and Play system may be good in the event of an accident or to re-live a beautiful drive. I don’t know how necessary it would be to race legends or friends. I would guess that maybe it could be fun for kids to just play around and be able to sit in the car for a race. Perhaps a system like this could be used to teach people how to drive without going onto the road.
Along with the concept SC2 EV Hypercar, the company also has some other EVs that they are working on. I would expect a high price tag for this car, so hopefully, they are working on a few affordable models as well. It’s great to see more EVs will be hitting the market that can help us to cut down on emissions.
