Mercedes-Benz has seen the light on electric vehicles! They vow to create an entirely carbon-neutral fleet by the year by 2040. Electric vehicle fans will love the new Vision EQS, a concept sedan whose groundbreaking “Digital Light” headlamps are an integral part of its networked safety systems.
Record-Breaking Range
Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Vision EQS at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It’s a futuristically styled sedan with an impressive driving-range claim of up to 700 kilometers (435 miles). They conducted lab testing under Europe’s new worldwide harmonized light vehicle test procedure estimate (WLPT) test cycle, which generates more-realistic estimates of real-world efficiency.

Impressive Specifications
Once Mercedes can release a production version of the EQS to market, the 700 km would make it the marathon champ of current electric vehicles, topping the 595 km of the Tesla Model S and Model X Long Range versions. It would also have a significant, 250-km range advantage over the 2020 Porsche Taycan, which has posted a 450-km WLTP. The EQS has an impressive range that would put it 350 km ahead of the demands of stricter U.S. EPA measures.
The 350-kilowatt ultra-fast charging system, similar to Porsche’s, allows an 80% charge in less than 20 minutes.

The EQS’s dramatic, sloping roofline is more akin to the CLS. In the front, the grille replaced with a light matrix with 940 individual LED lights framing a single star and set into a slick black panel. New digital headlights, each with four holographic lenses and 500 LED lights per headlamp, project light that make the vehicle appear to ‘float’ in the air.

The new headlights have an unlimited number of display options and make the car expressive and seem to ‘interact with its environment.’ At the rear, 229 individual LED stars create a new look on the Mercedes brand logo across the tailgate, a continuous 360-degree light belt joins the front light display with the back.
The interior is breath-taking. Inspiration comes from luxury yachts says Mercedes-Benz, the cabin was designed to “provide a new level of serenity. The new ‘floating’ dashboard blends in with the body to form a one-piece interior sculpture, with the cockpit wrapping around and enveloping its passengers. There are even side displays on the driver and passenger seats.
A band of ambient light spans the circumference of the interior and communicates information to passengers, and are adjustable to provide different moods of light. The center display, incorporated into the expansive touch-activated dashboard, allows digital content visible over the entire area.

Mercedes-Benz expects to have 20 fully electric cars for sale by the end of the year.
Production Version
Still, no word on when the production version of this car will appear in showrooms. But if it looks anything like the concept car, Mercedes buyers will be over the moon.
