Architecture studio Nudes, who specializes in combining cultural, social, and environmental features in buildings, has designed a five-story ‘Forest School.’ The design was the winning entry for a competition held to create a new educational facility in Pune, in western India.
Over the last ten years, Pune’s urban population has increased, and its air quality has worsened. The pollutant levels regularly surpass both Indian standards and WHO guidelines. With this in mind, Nudes architects designed the ‘Forest School’ to tackle this problem.
The vertical garden purifies the air from toxic pollutants and chemicals while turning CO2 into oxygen. Simultaneously, the garden helps to keep the building cool. The rooftop features an “infinity” cycling track, where students can ride bicycles for daily exercise. This infinity-shaped track joins the cylindrical structures together from the top.
The eco-school will teach children from a young age, providing hands-on learning about the environment, climate change, gardening, and health. The Forest School will become a reality in 2021 and will be built by Nudes architects.
In 2019, Stefano Boeri Architetti firm unveiled designs for three (seven-story) vertical forest buildings in an Egyptian desert east of Cairo. The forest includes pollution-absorbing trees and plants.
