89-Year-Old Woman Knitted 450 Blankets And Coats For Shelter Dogs To Keep Them Warm

Date:

Dogs Trust (formerly the NCDL) is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity. It cares for over 16,000 unwanted, abandoned, and stray dogs each year through a network of 20 re-homing centers around the UK, and now one in Ireland as well. Over the past 127 years, the charity has been involved in every piece of legislation affecting dogs. Their goal is to look after and find homes for dogs throughout the UK and they have a strict non-destruction policy meaning they’ll never put a healthy dog to sleep, ever.

Without all the many kind-hearted individuals who truly care about the animals’ well-being, the charity wouldn’t be doing as well as it has for over a century!

She loves it so much that she has knit about 450 sweaters and blankets for pups so far. She donates them all to the shelter nearest to where she stays, the Dogs Trust Basildon Shelter. Three times per year her family drives her there and helps her unload every big batch of her knitted creations. The charity was so happy about her that it shared her generous contribution on the Dogs Trust Instagram page.

It has taken her years to make all those sweaters and blankets but she is more than happy to do it. She loves knitting and dogs. She explained how it takes her three days to knit a blanket and one day to knit a doggy coat which she likes to do while watching television. It seems like a lot of work but it keeps her busy, which she likes, and so she doesn’t mind at all. The best part for her is how delighted it makes her to be able to be a helping hand for so many friendly 4-legged friends.

Locals are encouraged to donate sweaters and blankets, and volunteer in the shelter, as everybody’s help is more than welcome. So if you live near a Dog Trust shelter and absolutely love dogs too, check in to see what you can do to help out!
