Arizona firm Nikola Motors is now taking pre-orders (as of June 29th) for its Badger fuel-cell pickup truck. It’s available with either a purely electric powertrain or hydrogen system. As a typical battery-electric vehicle (EV), it will have a range of 300 miles, but as a 120kW hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the range is double.

And don’t worry about the hydrogen gas because the company is planning out a hydrogen station infrastructure throughout North America that involves 700 new fueling stations!
Milton, the company’s CEO, said:
We are building the largest hydrogen network in the world and I couldn’t be prouder to have Nel part of it. These electrolyzes will support five heavy-duty hydrogen stations which will cover multiple states and trucking routes. The future of clean transportation is here, and fleets are lining up to be part of the transition with Nikola.

The pickup features impressive specs such as 906 peak horsepower and 980 pound-feet of torque – meaning it can start on a 50% incline hill without any stalling. And it’ll do 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds thanks to a supercapacitor-based launch system.

A real operating truck will be officially unveiled at the company’s annual Nikola World event this December 4th. All customers who have reserved a Badger will be invited.
The Badger is expected to go into production in 2022.
