Hand dryers are useful for drying hands within seconds, and some high-tech versions include UV light that kills bacteria simultaneously. This is all great, but not so much for people in wheelchairs, children, and the elderly, as they can’t reach the hand dryer, therefore can’t benefit from it. Now, Yeom Jin Soo and Designer Dot have designed a rotating hand dryer, called U Dryer (Universal Dryer), that anyone could use!
The creators of U Dryer focused on designing a product usable for every person, regardless of their height, age, or disabilities. Along with looking sleek and modern, the U Dryer comes with a simple rotating feature and a UV light that allows for 360-degree sterilization when the motion sensor detects someone’s hands.
HEPA filters built in the hand dryer prevent any viruses from coming into contact with users’ hands, a feature particularly useful when installed in public bathrooms. As a bonus, these filters also help to purify the air around the device.
The only thing that’s missing is voice control, which can reduce the risk of product contamination via touching – kids often touch things around them, and blind people find their way around by sense of touch.
U Dryer is an overall ‘clean’ design that is aligned with its purpose and mission. Its main button is seamlessly hidden, protecting it from water damage and people who might accidentally turn it on or off. The product’s cord is connected to the rotating shaft part, which prevents the wire from getting tangled when the dryer rotates.
