Avallen Calvados Pioneers Carbon Footprint Label

Date:

Avallen Calvados is an apple brandy brand with sustainability at its core and a mission to save wild bee populations worldwide. A significant task, as bees were declared the most crucial living species on this planet. Most recently, Avallen has revamped its packaging with a new label that displays its carbon footprint, setting new sustainability standards for the drinks industry.

Tim Etherington-Judge, the co-founder of Avallen, said:

The spirits industry has a total lack of labeling transparency, with brands not even required to list ingredients on the bottle, let alone their ecological impact. We want to change that and lead from the front, communicating our environmental footprint as clearly as possible for people looking to understand more about the effect of the products they buy. Our new label represents that desire, and we hope that we’re the first of many brands to take this action.

The new label, made out of apple pulp and recycled paper fibers, will contain an entirely transparent list of all that goes into – and comes out of – manufacturing the French apple brandy. This will include everything from water usage and GHG emissions to packaging materials and specifics of the brand’s charitable donations.

In addition, the bottle label will feature a QR code on the cork. When consumers scan the code, they will find Avallen’s AVALLEN Bee More Report 2021. This sustainability report reveals precisely what the brand has accomplished on its mission to tackle the climate crisis and disastrous biodiversity loss and its future commitments to people, bees, and the planet.

Miranda Hart from Avallen’s design agency ‘Wonderworks Communications,’ added:

We were very excited to work on this project with Avallen. A natural next step for a brand committed to lead the way with total transparency of their sustainability and environmental credentials. Hopefully, this will challenge other brands to follow suit and allow consumers to truly understand the impact of their purchases.

Avallen Calvados, made from nothing but apples, water, and time, is an excellent option for those who seek a delicious and environmentally friendly buzz that won’t give the planet a hangover.
