BYD Opens Denza N8 Pre-Orders With 1,003 KM of CLTC Range

Date:

BYD has opened pre-orders in China for the new Denza N8, a five-seat luxury electric SUV rated at up to 1,003 km of CLTC range. The listing makes it the first BYD electric SUV to pass the 1,000 km mark on that cycle. Final prices are still to come, with the official launch scheduled for November.

Range test cycles matter here, so a quick gloss at first use: CLTC is the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle, the Chinese lab standard. WLTP is the European standard, and EPA is the United States standard. CLTC figures usually read higher than WLTP or EPA for the same car. Treat the 1,003 km of CLTC range as a Chinese lab figure, not a real-world promise.

Denza N8 Pre-Orders Open in China

BYD opened pre-orders for the BYD Denza N8 on October 26, according to Electrek reporting on the launch. The car is available to reserve in China only at this stage. There is no confirmed export date.

Denza general manager Li Hui described the early response as excellent. That is a company statement about pre-order interest, not an independent sales total. No verified order count has been published.

Buyers can place a reservation with a 2,000 RMB deposit, worth roughly 200 dollars, and receive a 5,000 RMB credit toward options for a limited time. Denza has not disclosed pre-order pricing for the Denza N8 itself.

Range, Battery, and Charging

The headline spec is up to 1,003 km of CLTC range, or about 623 miles on that cycle, from the long range version. A second version is rated at 800 km of CLTC range.

Regulatory filings link those figures to two Blade Battery 2.0 packs: a 130.15 kWh pack for the 1,003 km of CLTC range version and a 105.79 kWh pack for the 800 km of CLTC range version. The prior plug-in hybrid N8 offered a combined 1,003 km of CLTC range using gasoline and electricity together. This new model claims that distance is on electricity alone under CLTC conditions.

Denza pairs the pack with its Megawatt Flash Charging technology. The company claims charging from 10% to 97% takes nine minutes, which has not been independently verified. Expect the real-world range on WLTP or EPA ratings, when published, to land lower than the CLTC figure.

Power, Size, and Platform

The Denza N8 will offer rear-wheel-drive and tri-motor all-wheel-drive versions. Rear drive versions use a single motor rated at either 320 kW (429 hp) or 370 kW (496 hp). The tri-motor version uses the e3 platform with a 270 kW front motor and two 310 kW rear motors, for a combined 890 kW, or about 1,193 hp.

The SUV measures 5,150 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,820 mm tall, with a 3,075 mm wheelbase. That makes it slightly longer than a Kia EV9. It seats five, while the related six-seat N8L sits above it in the lineup for now.

Cabin and Driver Assistance

Inside, the Denza N8 uses a 30-inch central display plus a 1.1 meter passenger side screen, with a crystal-cut floating knob and four interior color schemes. Denza also lists two front zero-gravity seats, rear seats reclining to 146 degrees, wireless phone charging, and ambient lighting.

The roof carries a LiDAR sensor to support BYD God Eye 5.0 driver assistance, alongside the DiSus-A air suspension system. BYD has not published independent test scores for the assistance system, so treat capability claims as manufacturer statements for now.

Price Context and What Comes Next

Denza has not set Denza N8 pricing. For reference, the longer six-seat N8L starts at 299,800 RMB, about 45,000 dollars, for the Premium trim and 329,800 RMB, about 49,000 dollars, for the Flagship. Electrek notes the standard five-seat N8 will likely price below the N8L, but that is an estimate, not a confirmed price.

The official launch is scheduled for November in China. Delivery dates have not been verified. Until Denza publishes prices, WLTP or EPA equivalents, and delivery timing, the honest summary is this: a familiar value brand is pitching a luxury SUV on a strong CLTC spec sheet, and buyers should wait for the sale terms before judging whether the badge fits.
