A local brewery in Fargo, North Dakota, is lending a helping hand to dogs who have a hard time finding their new forever home. Fargo Brewing Company teamed up with 4 Luv of Dog Rescue, a local rescue group, and developed beer cans that feature pups looking to get adopted.
The pups they feature on the cans, dubbed “One-der” dogs, are dogs that have a difficult time getting adopted because of their socializing problems with other dogs. “Our One-der dogs are dogs that will live their best life in a home by themselves, and there are no other pets. So, they can be a little bit tougher to find homes for, foster homes, that type of thing,” said Jerad Ryan, a volunteer at 4 Luv of Dog.

Shelters across the US are at full capacity. Therefore, this creative idea couldn’t have come at a better time. LifeLine Animal Project in Atlanta waived their pet adoption fees at a pair of Shelters because of the overwhelming amount of animals.
The group posted on Facebook:
Just last week, 358 animals entered our Dekalb County Animal Services and Fulton County Animal Services shelters. This week, 123 animals have arrived so far.
Ryan has volunteered with the North Dakota rescue group for over four years, and he especially loves the One-der dogs, particularly Bizzy, who he nursed. “I was always trying to think of ways to promote her and the other, less fortunate dogs in our rescue. At my job at Northern Plains Label, we produce labels for breweries, and I just had the light bulb style idea to feature the dogs on beer cans,” Ryan said.

Ryan explained
I approached my boss about donating beer can labels to a brewery willing to feature our dogs. He loved the idea. I asked Fargo Brewing if they would be willing to do this for us, and they loved it too. They have gone above and beyond with donating profits.
In November, the community was invited to a special event hosted with the 4 Luv of Dog rescue, at the brewery where they could pick up a six-pack of the Fargo Original Lager for only $9. The event was dedicated to the six featured One-der dogs who are looking to get adopted, Nyx, Bizzy, Jensen, Hobie, Moby, and Virginia. The pups were also at the event so that people can meet them.

Tawny Hewitt, the brewery’s marketing manager, claims they made 40 cases with the special labels during the event, and they sold 25. The public was able to buy a six-pack through the week after the event. The rest of the beer that didn’t sell was donated to the rescue group, along with a share of the proceeds from the sales.
Fargo Brewing Company said:
We hope that having these dogs featured on the cans will help raise awareness and shine a spotlight on them where they might normally have been overlooked.

The community responded very positively and was heartwarming towards this new move. Hopefully, it will help the pups find their new loving forever home. Additionally, since the number of animals in the shelter is high, the Nebraska Humane Society and the Louisiana SPCA have also cut down adoption fees.
