Lifepack is the brainchild of Claudia Isabel Barona Bonilla and her husband Andrés Benavides López de Mesa. The couple had the vision to create a product that when planted, or even thrown down as litter, will produce a beautiful flower or plant.
The company’s products are dubbed “the most ecological disposable container on the market”. They have a unique, hygienic material that can withstand both moisture and heat from food.
Lifepack does not cut down trees to make their products, they utilize raw pineapple as their base material. Inedible parts of corn and rice, normally thought of as agricultural waste, are also part of the packaging! Using these as materials for the product helps farmers generate more income by selling their “waste” to Lifepack.
The company prides itself on the fact that more than 60% of jobs they generate are held by low-income single mothers. These positions allow them to work from home while caring for their children.
Consumers can plant Lifepack packaging in their gardens and businesses that use the products such as coffee shops or restaurants with special collection bins. Lifepack, with the help of others, will collect from the bins and send the packaging to areas affected by deforestation or devastated by wildfires.
