Every year, hundreds of billions of single-use coffee cups are produced, while most of them can’t be recycled as they’re coated with plastic. Sadly, the majority of these cups end up in the oceans, landfills, or incinerated. One way to reduce personal waste is to start using a reusable cup so that your morning routine doesn’t contribute to this waste.
One British company called Circular & Co is taking an eco-friendly approach with the introduction of its reusable ‘Circular Cup’ made from recycled single-use cups that would otherwise wind up in landfills. The used disposable cups are collected in large numbers from supermarkets and cafes before the team from Circular turns them into permanent mugs.
Each mug is made from six used cups and is designed to last ten years; once the travel mug reaches the end of its life, its 100% recyclable.
The Circular Cups have convenient design features, including a spring-loaded push-and-click top that allows users to open the top one-handedly. It’s as easy as pressing down one finger, and the lid pops up. A 360-degree cover enables users to drink or pour from any angle. The cup can be stored in a bag or backpack without worries, as its completely leak-proof. Finally, the reusable mug can keep drinks hot for 60 to 90 minutes.
The Circular mug is an eco-friendly alternative to portable cups on the go. The company has a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, where it’s offering a 16oz mug at an early bird price of $15 and a 12oz version for $13. The cups, seen in the video below, will be available from October.
