The Surreal, Hubless Reevo Is The E-Bike of The Future

Date:

What does the bicycle of the future look like? It’s sleek and has no spokes. The hubless electric bike, called Reevo, took four years to develop. It was designed and engineered by a Seattle-based company called Beno Technologies – short for “be innovative.”

Some argue that it’s impressive form compromises function. Regardless if that’s true or not, the bike took years of engineering effort to achieve its sci-fi aesthetic. The hollow wheel does provide the opportunity for extra storage space; So, it’s not entirely just an eye-catching feature.

The e-bike delivers about 500 watt-hours of battery, 750 watts of power, and several useful high-tech gadgetries. It’s one of the most gadget-packed bikes available. It has an advanced anti-theft system, which includes a built-in wheel lock (unreachable by bolt cutters) that can be unlocked by fingerprint sensor only, anti-theft sensors that send alerts to your smartphone, and GPS tracking.

There’s a phone cradle that turns your smartphone into the dashboard for easy, hands-free navigation. The kickstand is hidden, a charming minimalist touch.

And the lighting is excellent. The e-bike has built-in 800-lumen LED lighting integrated into the front and back wheel. They turn on automatically when it’s starting to get dark outside. They serve as a headlight, rear indicators, and brake lights.

How much does it cost? For a machine with so many tech goodies built-in and all the effort it took to engineer it, the asking price of US$1,999 a unit is relatively cheap.

Maybe it’s time to upgrade your pedal bike to an e-bike. A recent Norwegian study found that e-bike riders cycle four times the distance and over twice as often. Don’t want to part with your pedal bike? No problem. You can convert the bike you have into a smart e-bike with Vekkit’s conversion kit.
