This Office Chair Lets You Work and Work Out at the Same Time

Around the world, many people work from home via online jobs. That means they are always on the computer and, in some cases, stay cooped up indoors. This can lead to health complications if they aren’t exercising or making sure their office chair (which they spend most of the day sitting on) has good back support.

Fitwork, designed as a product to let you work and work out simultaneously, breaks that unhealthy cycle and embodies a no-excuse mentality to stay fit. No more excuses of ‘not wanting to go all the way to the gym’ or of ‘being too busy.’ Fitwork brings the gym not only to your house but also to your workspace.

This desk-chair/treadmill hybrid allows you to keep the lower half of your body active while you work, keeping your spine engaged while giving you cardio. Whether you’re sitting down, working on a computer while pedaling, or standing in front of one—walking, Fitwork tackles the inactive lifestyle.

The setup comprises an adjustable office chair attached to a treadmill, an elliptical, and an elevated desk. While sitting in the chair, your legs naturally rest on the Fitwork’s elliptical, allowing you to pedal and burn calories while typing emails and attending video calls. Spin the chair out of the way, raise your desk upwards, and you’ve got a standing workspace. Turn on the treadmill, and you can start walking or jogging while working.

Designer and entrepreneur Brian Oaks created the Fitwork station after he ended up needing chiropractic adjustments and back surgery because of his inactive lifestyle (he was always on the computer and rarely had time to exercise.) Oaks was motivated to design something that could help him stay fit and healthy while managing his business simultaneously.

The Fitwork occupies a significant amount of space because it’s a combination of an adjustable desk, treadmill, elliptical, and office chair; however, it’s much smaller than a typical gym and a workspace combined. The same multitasking philosophy powers the bike washing machine, which turns laundry day into a cardio session by replacing the front wheel with a washing drum.
