Trader Joe’s serves high-quality products at reasonable prices. The employees are always helpful and friendly. The company treats its employees well and is structured to foster their quality of life and health. Trader Joe’s employees have good health and vacation benefits, and their schedules are flexible. Up to 20% of Trader Joe’s employees have worked there for ten years or more.
Now, the store is helping its customers and workers during this coronavirus pandemic by taking control of panic-buyers, making sure everyone gets a chance to buy groceries and giving employees a bonus.
All the panic-buying has caused sales at the store to hit the roof, but rather than being greedy with the profits; the company is sharing the income sales increases with their employees. They are also controlling the hoard-buyers by allowing customers to purchase a maximum of two of any items, and they can only fill one cart per person.
On March 16th, Trader Joe’s announced that it’s preparing a “special bonus pool” for employees based on recent increases in sales. Depending on which hours the employees worked, the bonuses will be divided up among them.
A Trader Joe memo wrote:
We want to acknowledge the incredible hard work and dedication of our Crew Members in supporting each other and our communities by sharing the financial benefit of this sales increase with our store crew who have worked so hard during the past several weeks, and for as long as this challenge remains.
The store has increased the frequency of store cleanings to protect their employees and customers’ health, along with limiting the number of customers allowed in the store between 2-25 at the same time depending on the size of the store. Additionally, the company has also increased the number of days of paid sick leave to their employees.
