These Eye Drops Can Reverse Vision Loss On-Demand

Date:

For those who do not like wearing glasses and are fussy about contacts, there will soon be eyedrops available to reverse poor vision temporarily. The eye drops have proven to improve farsightedness already, passing their Phase 2b clinical trial!

Brought to you by Orasis, Pharmaceuticals, an Israel-based company, the CSF-1 eye drops have the incredible power to bring back sight. The effects only last for a few hours, but they take effect almost immediately. Just drop when you need to see, and you’re good to go! It is an on-demand remedy, not a form of daily medication.

The trial was part of a study that involved 166 participants testing out the eyedrops from several research centers across America. Its main objective was to test both the efficacy and safety of the product. The results were “extremely positive,” said Elad Kedar, CEO of Orasis, “so we are moving as quickly as possible into Phase 3.”

He said, “We are very encouraged by the results and CSF-1’s potential to improve the quality of life for people… CSF-1 can potentially alleviate the burden of reading glasses and offer a meaningful solution for billions of people living with age-related farsightedness worldwide.”

The participants saw an improvement of eyesight by three eye chart lines. That is the FDA requirement for eyesight studies. How do they work? According to Kedar, the drops function through a pinhole effect, merely meaning that they contract the pupils. Contraction creates an increased depth of field, which makes it possible to focus better on objects up close.

The ingredients are nothing new. All the chemicals used to make the eye drops already exist in eye medications for other treatments. Furthermore, the concentrations of these ingredients are far lower than the ones in procedures currently being used.

Over 50% of individuals older than 45 (more than 1.8 billion people) suffer from farsightedness. The condition is prevalent because it’s a side effect of aging. When people get older, they lose elasticity in the eye’s lens, which results in vision problems. The company is working on getting the full product to the market as soon as possible. It is exciting to provide the opportunity of vision on-demand for millions of people! Since this article was published, multiple presbyopia eye drops have received FDA approval, including Qlosi from the same company.
