Deep in the forest of Zuabe, Latvia lies a megaphone-shaped, micro-hospitality cabin that can bring peace and calm to anyone. Designed by Gianluca Santosuosso in partnership with Matthias Kimmel, the Silence Amplifier is destined to serve as a meditative space.
Like a megaphone, the unique cabin works as a funnel for audio. It collects sounds that emanate from the surrounding forest via its large main opening and then amplifies them as they hit the cabin’s apex. Whether it’s leaves falling, crickets chirping, hooves walking over packed snow, or birds flapping their wings from above, the Silence Amplifier will bring nature’s soothing sounds closer than ever before!
The tiny, cone-shaped cabin offers guests the opportunity to enjoy a deep and audiovisual experience in nature without having to step out into the cold or get bit up by bugs.
Santosuosso explained:
Instead of simply creating a building, we are proposing to create an architectural organism that is able to collect the silence of the forest, channel it and provide it to the person in the cabin in an amplified and customizable manner.
The cabin’s sloped roof rises with the surrounding trees and descends to ground-level, where the Silence Amplifier meets with the forest’s floor, hardly disturbing the natural landscape. The roof is designed to grow native vegetation on top of it to bring guests and the Silence Amplifier even closer to nature.
The Silence Amplifier includes sustainable wood fiber insulation and is built almost entirely from locally sourced timber. A high-thermal-inertia firewood stove keeps the cabin cozy during the winter.
